"The Montagu Arms is a charming restaurant, guesthouse, and bar, set in the beautifully tranquil town of Tandragee, County Armagh. Under new management since April 2008, and with award-winning chef James Richardson, and General Manager Peter Slevin at the helm, the Montagu serves traditional, hearty food, using locally-sourced ingredients. James trained at Newry and Kilkeel Centre of Excellence, and was a member of the medal-winning National Irish Junior Culinary Team, which competed successfully at the Culinary World Cup, and the Culinary Olympics. James is proud to have also been awarded Seafood Chef of the Year by Northern Ireland Seafood, and once you have enjoyed a meal at the Montagu Arms, it is easy to see that these accolades are well deserved.
The Montagu have just launched their autumn menu, and on it you will find steak ‘n’ Guinness pie, chicken Kiev, chicken Maryland, and succulent jumbo pork and leek sausages with Yorkshire pudding and onion gravy, in addition to their usual house favourites of honey glazed gammon, battered fresh Atlantic salmon, juicy sirloin burger, and locally sourced, dry aged steaks. Diners rave about the house-made desserts, and it is not uncommon to overhear someone say that the food is the best that they have eaten in years.
Busy lunch time brings a more casual menu, with a variety of sandwiches, salads, and wraps. Children are welcomed at the Montagu Arms, and a special kids’ menu is served daily, which is proving very popular.
The Montagu also hosts private events on a regular basis, and recent weeks have seen corporate events, birthday parties, christening, charity fundraisers, and a wedding. Each event is different, and both the chef and General Manager sit down with each organiser to ensure that their party is a spectacular success. The fact that there are 6 modern guestrooms available on-site, makes planning an event with out of town guests so much easier!"
